the state of Jordan, after relinquishing the occupied Golan back to Syria. It's precisely the humanity which Ali crystalises in this great poem that will make that essential humane and just solution possible. That and the final cutting off of the zionists' constant money/arms/propaganda/diplomacy subsidy coming from - steadily collapsing - USAmerica and its underling crony states. I imagine that people like Ali would even be prepared to concede some ground on the name of the unitary state: Palestine-Israel; maybe even Israel-Palestine. What's in a name... Thanks S. Great find! A translation, I imagine? If so, a good one! At uni, doing a literature course I always insisted that it's not possible to translate a poem, because so much of its power comes from the very echoing sound of the words, and all the resonances and references which they kick up in the original language. The best that could be done, I urged, was for a competent poet in the receiver language to marinate him/herself in the meaning of the original, with as much discussion as possible with native speakers, to get all the nuances of meaning and feeling that s/he could, and then to write a new poem which - at best - you could hope would shadow the overall impact of the original as best it could. I've had some practice at that, with Italian originals, and with Cyrmraeg originals. You do need to be a pretty good poet though. I scarcely qualify.
