I think it was Richard Heinberg that stated in the film that the problem was that there were too many of us consuming too much too quickly. It's the last two factors that are the most important in my view. Getting the amount and rate of consumption down is the most critical. But this challenges capitalist growth and the excesses of the few so it is not surprising that the PTB want the emphasis to be on reducing population. It's not just about climate change though that is the most egregious symptom of our malaise. At most all 'greening' capitalism can do is provide some kind of temporary mitigation and nothing at all if it is in addition to 'dirty' capitalism. It's also a diversion from the real issue which is that the totality of our way of life is unsustainable. The problem is psychological not technological.
