Informing ourselves is all well and good but what do we do with that information? Even if we pass it on to others what do we expect them to do with it? Tell others? And they'll tell more others. And let's say there comes a time when everybody knows whatever it is they feel they need to know. What then? Well, I reckon they'll do some more research. I often see posts saying we need a revolution. And then they/we, presumably, sit back do some more web browsing and posting messages and wait for somebody else to organise the revolution. Basically we are waiting for other people to do the hard work. The dirty work, indeed. The dangerous work. Let's say we hear on social media (if it's still up) that the long awaited revolution has begun and they ask us to take to the streets. But we hear on the BBC that there are riots (you didn't seriously think the BBC were going to call it a revolution, did you?) and that people are attacking each other and that they are attacking the police and that there are many arrests and lots of people injured. And then some government minister announces that any foreigners taking part in the riots will be deported and council tenants and their families will be evicted and all public servants and those working for local government or central government in any capacity will be fired from their jobs and that they are in talks with employers associations with a view to firing anybody involved in the riots. And school and university teachers will be immediately dismissed. And that all the various unions are on board with the government Look, there are the union leaders on TV standing beside the prime minister. And now we cut to Buckingham Palace... But what are you doing at home watching TV? Isn't there somewhere you need to be? The important thing to realise is that the media will never call it a revolution. Protesters will be demonised as "mindless hooligans", endangering lives and livelihoods. Are you afraid of the police? Have you ever been arrested? Are you terrified of a criminal record? Jeez! There are people who've risked life and limb. Well, step one for any revolutionary is to get arrested. It's not a big deal. Join some affinity group and you can all get arrested together. There's a comfort in doing that with your mates or even strangers the first time (strangers become mates quickly when you get arrested together) If there's enough of ye ye might even be put in a cell together. Go along to an Extinction Rebellion meeting. Find out what your rights are. Sheet, most people who rebel don't give a crap about their rights. They just know they've been abused for too long. And they won't stand for it anymore. And there's a whisker of a chance they/we might be able to do something about it this time. One other thing - the rich and their backers will not stand idly by. You gotta study revolutions. Both the Russian and Spanish revolutions were accompanied by civil wars. So, there ya are. Alternatively, STAY AT HOME. SAVE LIVES. PROTECT YOUR GOVERNMENT.
