I think it's sad and disturbing that someone with Sach's crystal clear liberal credentials and real experience and knowldge of Eastern Europe and Russia, has been more-or-less canceled by the liberal BBC/Guardian nexus in the UK. One would think he'd be a perfect fit for the Guardian because he's so rational, reasonable and thoughtful; not too radical but with his feet firmly anchored in realism and rationality. Th West insn't imperialist and ultra-aggressive, rather it's 'mistaken'. Yet, even Sach's 'balanced' observations are too much for the Guardian. This sort of illustrates how truly awful and dangerous the 'liberal' media has become, in wartime, if even Sach's is perceived as too extreme for their middle-class, educated, readers. What's going on? Well, the editors are being briefed by the security services about the conflict and swallow it whole, without dissent. It comes from the top and down. The leading writers are fed stories, a narrative too, by sources and contacts within the security services, Luke Harding springs to mind, and are only too eager to follow the leader.
