(Sssh"!) There'll be no sustainable solutions at all if population doubles every 50 yrs Archived Message

..as in: almost 20 billion by the end of the century, 40 billion by 2150, 80 billion by 2200..

And I'm talking about sustainable solutions to anything and everything - not just jet-fuel.

That said - even to this highly-informed and mildly optimist sceptic/cynic nuclear fusion prospects do look brighter than ever - China will probably get there first.

As for "agricultural land" - most green fuels are now being produced from agricultural waste and other (eg. cellulosic) biomass waste.

And Dear Royal Soc: there doesn't need to be just "one single" sustainable alternative to jet-fuel, fossil fuel or to any other erstwhile unsustainable or geopolitically catastrophic fuel or the outdated, inefficient technologies that still largely rely on them.

And although I'm still sceptical about hydrogen as a fuel(or "energy carrier") green hydrogen is already being delivered via pipelines in and from several countries including Spain(thanks in part to the impact/impetus of the Ukraine/Russia/EU oil+gas crisis).

And in the past six months or so Chinese scientists have announced new cost-crushing highly efficient hydrogen electrolysis materials and methodologies. And just as importantly they produce no climate-killing chlorine.

But hey - you all know all this already, right?
