Its vested interests - the MIC - like it that way. There is certainly need for regime change - in the US. The neocons - and their fantasy of global hegemony in perpetuity or the universal triumph of 'liberal democracy' (ironic considering the real situation in the US) at the 'end of history' - need to be consigned to the dustbin of history. It is no accident that the neocons are of Trotskyite heritage. But, with the fall of the Soviet Union, it became obvious to even the most obtuse that 'world communism' was going to be impossible to realise. The neocons simply replaced it with the possibility of universal 'liberal democracy'. Earthly utopianism is a form of millenarianism as fantasised by, for example, Christian and Muslim fundamentalists. How many corpses have been - and will be - piled up in the name of such fantasies? Cultures change and develop organically in their own time. They can be influenced by outside factors. But, trying to enforce change only leads to resistance and distortion and is counterproductive.
