Not quite as I see it, It may be a simplification of what is going on, ... and perhaps it just may not be the totality of left thinking, but in essence it is anti-war, and I like it

In addition, I hope one has noticed that any opposition to centrist liberalism (fascism) is termed as right-wing or occasionally as hard-right left (eyes roll). I dip my toes here as an anti-war maverick.

Easy to forget what a cracking film that is with all the recent sequel/prequel/ much lower quality output.

I love that film, Rask.
I always lamented that they killed Brett off too early, in my opinion, anyway.
He was a great character, so wonderfully laconic!

I hope Romulus is better than all the sequels since Aliens but I am not holding my breath.

I do too. It's easy for people to dismiss it as "a slasher in space" which of course at its heart it is, but it's a lot lot more. One of those perfect storm moments when lots of things happened to be just right. Stands up to pretty much endless rewatches.

I like "Aliens" too and then I think there's a fairly big drop in quality as the sequels go on although that's pretty standard for things once Hollywood decide to start cranking the handle.

I always think it was made in about 82 or maybe 84 or something and forget it was actually in the 70s.

As sharply as if it was yesterday I remember sitting in the upper circle of the Odeon on Oxford Road, Manchester, my wife on one side, a female friend on the other, and they both literally left their seats when John Hurt's chest exploded to reveal the alien. Never been bettered.

Somebody in front of us in the cinema collapsed when that happened.
Being made of sterner stuff, we survived but we definitely weren't in the better of it.

And then there's the exorcist...

And Jaws! When that shark came right up to the edge of the boat just missing yer man's leg my dad quickly pulled his legs in towards his chair. I damn near died laughing.

We must all be a little touched to seek out stuff that's going to scare the living daylights out of us!

Years ago I had a "friend" at the poker tables (in quotes because friend or no, you're trying to clean each other's clocks) and whenever one of us beat the other in a big pot the loser would text "ymscih" which is a line from The Exorcist (Your mother sucks cocks in hell). Happy days

Great film.

"Jaws" is pretty much a perfect film.

"The Vanishing" (1988) "Spoorloos" is shocking; if you've not seen it, see it without knowing anything about it. Septics remade it and ruined it.

PML I can't believe I've never seen that floating around the internet!

When I was a kid the father of a friend of the family went to see The Exorcist and had nightmares for months after and ended up having some sort of therapy over it. It came out just a little before my time, although a fair portion of my teenage years was spent trying to sneak into, or speak deeply enough to be let into, that and other X-certificate films.

"The Blackcoat's Daughter" is a great horror film that isn't widely seen, although it's the same director as the recent hit "Longlegs" so that might change now.

I'm going to have to dig his email out and send him a message saying I've been diagnosed with dyslexia....

I was a bit too young to sneak into the cinema to watch The Exorcist when it first came out but my dad bought the book on release and he kept secreted in his wardrobe.
Of course I found it and would retrieve back to my bedroom and speed read bits of it.
It scared me to death and I can still remember the ominous feeling it gave me as any little creak or sound in the house made the hairs on the back of my neck stand up!
Looking back on the book, it wasn't particularly well written, far too much punctuation as I remember.
I know the film you mention "The Blackcoat's Daughter"...not a bad watch at all.

You two are making me feel ancient (which I am).

I saw The Exorcist in Manchester and a couple of days later drove up to Dornoch on the east coast of Scotland to stay alone in an isolated cottage with log fires, oil lamps, no electric. The place was damp and the first night I lay in a cold bed trying to get warm and could hear the creaking of the trees and howling wind -- and as I lay there the only thing I could see was the spinning green face of the possessed girl as she spouts her foul abuse. Not much sleep that night ....

I saw it on telly when I was a Six Former but wasn't that nervous because I couldn't take religion seriously enough and rather enjoyed it the day after when some of the lads started chanting "The power of chris compels you." I liked it when her head went round and remembered it years later when learning about schizophrenia symptoms.

While I agree with the propaganda framing of everything and everyone that the status quo disagrees with as "far-right" for scare purposes (or of course, "far-left" if they are attacking from the right; more common in the US as seen with the recent "Kamala is a socialist" idiocy) these parties are far-right by any definition.

"Anti-war" is the new branding used by them to give themselves a tempered, non-racial policy based cover; this is going on with the Republicans and all entites right of them in the US too.

I also agree the right are in power generally, and in Germany specifically, while posing as centrist/ liberals whatever they want to call themselves, but in the German case they are exactly what the term suggets.

I should clarify but in the German case they are exactly what the term suggets.

"they" means the populist/far-right parties that are getting more popular; the sentence was far from clear.

Also, dig into some of the groups that are in the shade of these parties and there are some very unpleasant mobs indeed lurking around.

It stands to reason really; remember all the coverage of the "neo-nazis" in the newly free (ex)East of the country? They didn't just disappear.

I just saw the beginning of Mercouris' todays vid where he analyses the election results. Sahra Wagenknecht' party was lumped in with far-right, which is ludicrous .. she is a lefty. Mercouris is married to a German and knows his German onions. Mainshitemedia wins again.
