As I highlighted below in "dark horse qb" down a thread or 2. Darnold us/was as talented a prospect as has been drafted the last 10-15 years.
The starting opportunities hes been allowed have been with 2 of the leagues worst franchises. He showed in SF last year, in brief playing time. He has the tools to be dam good.
Lets say the vikings draft Drake maye. & Lets assume he needs 2 years grooming. At age 24, is Maye going to be any better than Darnold is now?
Penix & Nix- in 2 years of grooming theyre about the same age as darnold is now.
Idk, doesnt it feel like those hardest years of grooming a young qb are already out of the way with Darnold, and now its just fine tuning a great talent into your specific scheme.
Or maybe im missing something here. Afterall, I am not in the room. I am not a nfl coach.
Rolling the dice, with multiple 1st round picks, on ncaa qb's with less ncaa talent than Darnold seems like a far riskier play than say- drafting a top wr at 11 & a top IOL at 23.
Wouldnt the vikings be a far greater offense in that scenario than grabbing McCarthy or Maye and hoping that the existing talent is enough.
To me- the scenario of going all in on Darnold seems the plan with the greatest chance of success. Not to mention- it is the Viking history on how they land their franchise qb's.
Trade 2- #1's for maye. If he fails. Everybody gets fired... Thats how I see it anyway.
Grab your qb on day 3. Joe Milton? Bradley? Cam Ward? Devin Leary? Sam Hartman could very well be another Brock Purdy.
3 weeks to go. I think for most viking fans. Using both #1 picks on the 3rd or 4th qb will cause our collective heads to explode. I can live with using #11 or #23 on a qb. Just not both picks and for dam certain not next years #1 as well.
