Nobody is saying its easy.
Certainly not me.
What I am saying is neither Maye Or McCarthy have shown that processing speed. So dont trade multiple picks to get them.
Maybe Nux gas shown it in a limited scheme. And Penix has also shown some quick processing.
Meanwhile, Darnold, Zac Wilson, Drew Locke and a few others that the drafting team moved on from long ago- were available for next to nothing. Those guys, Sam Howell too. They are miles ahead in the development process over all of these rookies.
A wise NFL team. Builds the supporting cast instead if drafting 1st round qb's. & Then brings in 2 or 3 young guys that were called "busts" before thwy ever had the chance to develop.
It feels to me like the Vikings arent really trying to get the qb situation correct as much as they are trying to get the Fans to believe theyre doing everything possible. The Vikings are playing into false narratives. Especially the one about getting your qb on the 5 yr option rookie deal being the path to a superbowl victory.
Since that became the CBA rule. Theres been 1 guy thats accomplished that. Patrick Mahomes. Who just happens to play for the best active hc in the league & was surrounded by elite talent when he got his 1st nfl start.
Herbert hasnt done it, nor Burrow, Tua, jalen, Lamar, kyler, Trev Lawerence, Baker, Fields... Etc etc... and all the above were the qb successes. Then theres the Zac Wilsons, Trubiskys, & Lance type colossal mistakes
Doesnt that actually mean- Mahomes is an outlier and the rookie 1st rnd qb, 5 year option guy that opens your SB window is pretty much a lie. Unless. You hit the lottery with a once in a decade talent at the same time the team has a talented roster and really good staff.
So, I repeat. Kwesi. Please let the draft come to you. 1 blown 1st round pick isnt complete catastrophe. Package 2 or 3 1st rounders, when the supporting cast is mediocre. It just keeps setting your team backwards while the young stars you hit on in prior drafts keep getting older & more expensive.
Be smart kwesi. Study the other teams. How did they get good, & then dominant. How did the others remain bad for so many consecutive seasons? Bad teams stay bad mostly bc they ignore the support cast while they throw darts at rook qb's. Never have the development staff in place or a continuity driven step by step plan to develop the young qb into a successful veteran.
Like I suggested eatlier. If KOC is indeed- the genius qb whisperer, with McKown & Wes Phillips as his extension & plan to turn qb raw ore into qb Gold. Then put that same effort into Sam Darnold. His raw talent is/was at least as good as any of the QBs within viking draft reach in a few weeks...
As I stated in that earlier post. If they cant turn Darnold into a top 20 qb for the next 5-8 seasons. Then this same group certainly cant turn any of these rookies into future stars.
Darnold provides them a cheat code. A ultra talented athlete that has already earned his hard knock stripes. How nany years did it take Brad Johnson to finally become a confident starter?
Hell, odds are, Maye will be available as a free agent inside 4 years.
Winning the draft- getting the star of april.
It feels good throughout spring. Fans get excited!
How did that jellen Mond, Jaren Hall April high note play out the following falls & Winters?
Just like road hunting. Deer in the spotlight, dead where they stood.
