This is a problem i have had a great deal of experience with. The solaris has the 1st ring too close to the reel-I have removed the 1st ring on mine. I have talked to Peter Froggat-current nz casting champion I think -who told me that Laurie Mitchell did experiments on ring placement and found that the optimum distance from a fixed spool reel is 5 to 6 feet . Have been thinking of changing my solaris rings to the fuji new concept guides -http://www.fujitackle.com.au/concept.htm
