I find it hard to believe that, given the continued and projected use of fossil fuels, that CCS can be scaled up sufficiently to offset emissions. On this particular project I am on, it is a 'lucky' coincidence that there is adequate storage for CO2. Meanwhile this power station provides power to the refineries and industrial facilities on Humberside and sells off the excess power to the National Grid. I don't know enough about the recent history of this area but should imagine this is where the gathering of North Sea oil has/is taking place. I suppose it's a good place to start. The problem is with other power stations which don't have an easy access to CO2 storage facilities. A partial solution can be dreamed up with provision of pipelines etc., I guess. So, very much agree with your statement in general. Climate change is happening now. Genuine efforts of mitigation are obviously welcome. But they are not enough. Massive changes are needed to our whole way of life. Agree with all that. Hence changing the political and economic system is a priority and like you say: .. we are going to have to adapt to the new world we [have created] as best we can. ... and until the system can be changed. The worst it gets the more likely there will be a breaking point ...
