i am not sure if it's the same case for you, but it seems that most people aren't blown away by nirvana's songs because you heard clone after clone regenerate their tunes ad nauseam after they hit the scene. one of the best examples is 'creep' by stone temple pilots. most people i have talked to regarding that song think it's by nirvana when they first hear it.
