Agreement- war- The only war the US has gotten involved in- boots on the ground. In my lifetime. That I agreed with.
The Invasion of Afghanistan. However, how it was handled. A total fiasco. And then to expand it to a 2nd invasion of Iraq. Gigantic mistake.
Agreement- Tax reform. Altho I didn't like how Trump reformed the code. He only lowered the taxes for business & the very rich.
Huge disagreement- Trump's flaunting scofflaw behavior. Trump's call for violence. Trump's call to blame your neighbor. Trump's lack of valuing conservation.
My biggest disagreements. Union busting.
Calling unions - communism.
Rewarding Corruption in business and in politics.
Rewarding liars. Deregulation!
---+---
When Business is not held to account via regulations. When regulations are ignored or removed. Then there is only a moral code that keeps business from pure, complete, unfettered exploitation of all resources.
In the business world, under the above parameters. A moral code becomes a weakness.
A competitive edge is gained when the new start up company. Company z says screw it. We will ship our manufacturing overseas. Screw the American workers.
It isn't long before the existing market share dominant company y, either goes out of business, it sends their manufacturing overseas too. Despite company y, Whose founder demanded his manufacturing be only in america.
Later, a new startup arrives. Company J sees even cheaper manufacturing costs by employing only children. Company J undercuts both Y & Z.
Pretty soon, all 3 company's are only employing child labor a few years go by. Country p offers a new startup, company x- free prison slave labor from its gulag for a few pennies of payola, and an introduction to the US president. His best pal.
The above illustration is a 3rd grade level example of free market enterprise resource exploitation. I do so. Bc 3rd grade level understanding of economics is about the level our country can grasp.
The fact is. Deregulation creates a system where the least empathetic businesses rise to the top. Become the dominant players. It is never ending.
There will always be someone willing to sink even lower. Just when you think business has set a new low. The lowest they can sink. Somewhere, somebody is figuring a way to sink lower.
Not far from where I live. In Wallace Idaho.
Back in the late 19th century. The unions were busted by a company that sink to a extreme low.
The put armed Pinkerton agents on top of the 2 story buildings in downtown Wallace. Had the sheriff arrest the union demonstrators that were picketing a couple of mines, demanding a better contract. Around 200 demonstrators were arrested and put in a make shift corral, (it has since become known as the "bullpen".) Rounded up to await their turn in front of the judge.
Not one ever saw the judge. Instead every single demonstrators was shot dead. It is now known in history as the bullpen massacre.
It's hard to find information on the event. The story was sanitized by the standard oil mining company long ago. Ken Burns talks about it briefly in one of his documentaries. It is a legend here in the silver valley. You can walk the cemeteries here and see the 1892 death date on the tombstones of many 20&30 year old men.
A couple times per month. I walk my dogs in the cemetery near my house. 1892 is a popular date.
1892 Coeur d'Alenes mining strike.
