Had Harris won, I'd probably still be hitting the exit. Politics only matter to a certain level.
Its the people. The everyday interactions that matter. You cant smile at a stranger in the USA. You cant lend a helping hand, nor ask for one.
And I noticed it before i split for Alaska 30+ years back. Since my return. 5 years in oregon. 11 years in Idaho. Not all that much has changed. People were angry at everything back in '08 when I atrived in oregon. Theyve been angry at the air everywhere ive been since.

Add in, I cant help myself. Its inate to my being. In public. I'm happy & gregarious. So- I'm always the bad guy, the " that guy".
Maybe I have 3 years left on this earth. Im going to spend that time amongst like minded people. Its been about 5-6 years since I last visited USVI. They are wired different. Island life us very different. Everybody knows everybody. Being angry at the air just doesnt fly. When somebody is in yrouble. 20 neighbors arrive before you can try and solve a problem on your own. A trip to the store takes half your day bc everybody stops to chat. Strangers smile at you. Children talk with you. Need a cup of sugar? Knock on your neighbors door & theyll thank YOU for stopping in.

Thats exactly how I was raised to behave.
Racism doesnt exist. If you care to try. You are shunned. Getting shunned on an island is a very bad thing. And everybody knows it. It keeps everybody on the same page. The page of... It our island. Our community. Tolerance is mandatory. Anger is excused only with an apology and promise to do better going forward.

Conversely- everywhere ive been in these last 15 years. Here in the lower 48. Kindness is a weakness to be exploited. Being an a-hole appears to be virtuous. Blech.

Added bonus- st johns is so small. A car is almost pointless. Scooter, electric bike. Atv with a trailer are far more efficient...and low & slow is the order of the day. The parcel i plan on leasing is about 2/3 an acre. Room to raise goats, chickens and a small garden. No internet. Cell phone coverage is by the minute and expensive. Electricity is very expensive.
So- this will be the final year I run this board.
