Caponord are spacious & almost comparable to Stelvio, No experience of the later 12/1300 Caponord, but the ETV1000 that I had was a dismal experience. Comfort, suspension and braking wise it was OK - good, even, on the comfort side. But the de-tuned RSV Mille Rotax engine was just plain awful - inadequate flywheel, very viby (2 balance shafts, yet my throttle hand was numb after 20 miles - not great on a 250 mile day), heavy on fuel (mid-40s best) and with a truly msiguided vacuum operated slipper clutch that was unperedictable in operation and completely removed engine braking seemingly at random. Build quality was pretty mediocre too. One of the few bikes I bought without a prior test ride (non available) I got rid after less than 6 months from new & one of the few poor experience Continental tours I did - rode it down to Austria & back but did very little riding after arrival, mainly due to comprehensively hating the bike . Actually the last soley bike Continental tour I did - other riding "over there" has been on bikes trailered behind a motorhome. Came across one in a local dealer before Xmas (may even have been my old one - never many about & I couldn't recall the reg but, it was the same late model black version) and was rather suprised at just how physically big it was. I don't recall it being so excessively large when I had it, but I am pretty sure I would not be able to manage it now. It wasn't just large, it was also heavy as well. IMO Aprilia twins with the Rotax engine are best given a very wide berth. Nigel B. |
