Cold Weather payment

Now it is being taken away and i cannot claim Pension credits, i am going to protest. During January and some of February, i will switch off my gas and considerably lower my electricity use.
Going to the Caribbean for 35 days. That will teach them.

It should be nice at about 29C on most days but have to float over first. No electricity meter on the ship so no need to take shillings either.

They have accepted my health problems and insurance was near £900. Looking at some passengers using oxygen or no legs etc,i think some will have no cover given that some are over 90 years old.
I even get a medivac chair if an emergency situation develops as i cannot use the stairs. Quite well geared up now. I just take along some walking sticks and maybe crutches due to having to walk further than normal.

Blimey Geoff that sounds more like a geriatric hospital ward than a cruise liner.

Just think the £300 taken from poor pensioners will need 30 pensioners to pay for the increase in train drivers pay, or it would take a single pensioner 30 years to pay a train drivers for one years increase.

Pensioners vote Conservative. Most of them will be dead through hypothermia at the next election, so what's the big problem?

At least I can tell my grandchildren I got one winter fuel allowance before the working peoples' champions pulled the plug.

I shouldn't worry too much Chazzy - I reckon this will be the first U turn of the new government.

I wonder if all the noise they are making at present over banning smoking in pub gardens might be a metaphorical as well as literal smokescreen to divert our gaze from something else. It has that ring of ridiculousness about it that attracts all the press attention. Meanwhile, over here...

Running costs for my home & portable oxygen concentrators cost about £20 a month.
No other comment.

I could see paying all pensioners, including King Charles the fuel allowance may have been wrong and myself, i just saw it as a good freebie as i can easily pay my bills but keep them lower by careful use and insulation.
The worst of this is Pensioners who could, but do not claim pension credits due to not being able to do the claims. If only the DWP would just find the ones not claiming and just give them the money they are entitled too.
The Citizens advice who help these people just do not have enough staff now but i see in Town, the office is operated a few hours a week.
During my 4 years off work in 1979, i also found very little help until after 6 Months when they started giving me more money than my pay. They then told me there were many things i could claim but i have to find it myself. I did find all the paper claim forms and posted off and more money came in and i could feed the family again.
Later on, i helped a few people to claim their entitlement to disabled benefits and most were successful although 2 applications failed.
I see that petrol duty may rise in the budget by 5p litre and as a low user, it will not have any effect on me but wait for the rises in cost due to transport costs. The last 2 Months have had a few problems for older people. I expect the Bus passes will be taken soon unless you have pension credit.

In all my years I have never worked out that one mans pay rise means taking it off another mans wages.
Always demanding more unable to grasp the simple concept that its not how many pounds you earn that matters butwhat you can buy with one.

Sod'em, I just bought a 75yr old car, so thats £190 road tax saved, wouldn't be surprised if thats on a hit list either. Don't buy a TV licence, don't drink, don't smoke so thats more of more cash they don't get.

It's not rocket science to work out a way we can all live with sensible cost of living. Dare I say maybe some dinghies arriving at a alarming rate with people bleeding us dry. Wasn't the estimate cost to us tax payers around 8 million a day. Don't get me started!!!

There is a new £20 million new complex being built in Wales for the boat people at the moment on a former school site. Meanwhile, my working boys cannot earn enough including their partners earnings, to buy a house. It will hold just about 1 days arrivals. If they continue to come, the Government need to rent 1000 hotels each year and keep them all heated.

Dave the bills were affordable then. If the energy companies didn't have to pay so many share holders and Shell stopped raking in eye watering profits we wouldn't need winter fuel allowance.

It does seem that the fat cats are ripping us off, but on the other hand most of us have pension funds which rely upon the profitability of international conglomerates. Nevertheless our investments would probably do better if the fat cats exercised more portion control.

Yes, my Monthly energy bill has just about doubled in 3 years despite using less energy. With the new scheme , the low paid and low paid pensioners will get a better deal. I do manage bills very well so i can always pay. Lucky i had a really good Government pension scheme.
When the price of retail goods went up at quite a rate, i was able to claw some money back by having a car which does almost double the mpg of the last one.

Well all my bills water Electricity and Gas they owe me everything I own is paid for including rhe house .my son and daughters houses are paid up to date so must be doing something right I don't spend money on a bike each year I don't prop the bar up drinking beer at the cost it is and also don't eat out as well ..unfortunately havnt been on holiday for twenty years now though Maz has been abroad a couple of times the car is over 20 years old and believe it or not looking for another car and I do get pension credits so get my specs virtually free. Only downside is I think the driving licence has had it ..but I don't grumble and had a great life

Don't forget that we were promised cheap power from renewables by our last government. They gave subsidies to build wind farms and solar which produce cheap power. The only thing is the prices charged for said cheap power are fixed to gas prices. So, the difference is presumably pocketed by the power companies.

Think about that on the next windy day when over 50% of power is provided by renewables but you pay the exorbitant gas price for it - and celebrate.

I seem to recall that the discovery of oil and gas in the North Sea was going to be our salvation forever. What happened there, wrong type of gas I presume.

It's amazing that the Greenys don't moan about the wind turbines but moan about generating electricity from tidal sources it's free and always there. Ohh it might upset wading birds..

When i was at school in the 1950s they told us Atomic energy was going to make electricity so cheap it would nt be neccessary to put a meter in our homes.

and..plastic was a wonder material that would be unbreakable,last forever, never degrade, etc.
