Oh sear benn out of touch with IKBA my self due to health conditions blood loss weakness etc have decided that my riding will have to stop so my almost mint 1981 cx 500 maggot will have to be sold &my low mileage 2019 silver septere enfield interceptor as well but shocked to see about mad Mike and deeply sorry for Jerry to I brought an NSU Quickly from jerry some years ago goodness it dont take long for radiecle changes to occure dont put anything off do what you can when you can regards to you all & commiseratons as appropriate

Know how you feel there's so much wrong with me some hospital departments have given up
Still have the Ariel no chance of riding again just trying to get to the end of the year..

Shiner - sorry to hear that you are giving up, but good that you know that you have to rather than keep going and risk an accident.

Good luck selling off your bikes, would imagine that both bikes would be "easy" to sell, but given the state of the market it might take a while.

Who needs a signature anyway......

That's a pity, Shiner. A CX is a fantastic bike - one of my faves and my first 'big' bike.

I recommend ditching big bikes Bru - I've not had a litre bike (apart from old boxers that are only 60bhp) for about seven years. I don't miss them at all.

Thr V Strom 650 does all I really need (one tooth smaller gearbox sprocket makes it quite sharp) and is physically tall enough for me. Other than that old classics are generally pretty small and thus easier to deal with. I have ridden 30 miles on the Strom this year but I rode 450 on the AJS 18S that I recently sold - pretty telling figures. I keep the Strom for the odd ride with a mate who has my old R1100RT and for my wife to occasionally go on the back. On sunny days, like today and the week forecast ahead, I'd probably rather have the peace of a bicycle on a rural lane than the sweaty heat of motorcycle gear and traffic.

I do miss the Stelvio. But, in reality, it was giant sized and much bigger and more powerful than I need. When I look at them, as I still do, I see quite a few with ethanol bubbles on the tank. Then there was the oil warning light that stayed on for 30 miles for no reason at all...

The V Strom has a metal tank and seems to be completely reliable - it's 73bhp but has loads of go with a one tooth smaller gearbox sprocket. Lighter, narrower and super-economical too. I can't find any reason to sell it which is completely unlike me. First anniversary of ownership on Wednesday. It's been a long time since a bike has lasted a while year. Perhaps I should advertise it...!!

If you miss the Stelvio have you considered a Guzzi V85TT ?
Similar style & ergonomics to the Stelvio but lighter & simpler, and well liked by the Guzzi fraternity.

Yes, Will, I have looked at it very closely. I really do like V twins but say £6k for a bike that does exactly what my Strom does seems a bit pointless.

Really, I need to find something very different - probably another old clunker (ahem, I mean classic, naturally!) of some description. I'm unlikely to sell the Strom as they are so reliable and great for anything, particularly the odd ride with my mate on his RT and with my wife who won't countenance a small, old classic pillion perch! But, I barely go out on it whereas I was out on the AJS all the time. I only sold it as I'd lost all confidence in its 'restorer'. By the time it went it seemed perfect but my heart wasn't in it anymore

Try before you buy! My recollection of maggots is that they are surprisingly heavy and especially top heavy with a full tank of fuel.

Their appeal is their reliability once Honda sorted out the initial design flaws (and since then & if I recall correctly as long as certain awkward seals don't fail). They were the dispatch riders choice with good reason.

But definitely a Marmite bike. Personally I loathe them.

If you want a reliable lightweight shaft drive v-twin get a "small block" Guzzi.

But I'm biased!

While I am unable to ride any of my bikes these days (being nearer 90 than 80) I have no inclination to sell any of them, and while it’s unlikely things could get better, I still enjoy owning them.

Not ridden this year as my feet are a bit poorly but the bikes are ready to go. Made up the 2 gear levers with heel and toe change now so probably get out in this week.
I am getting swollen feet due to blood not returning so wearing compression socks. It cannot be fixed so i am just getting on with it now. Very sore but i already take 7 opiate based painkillers a day so its bearable.
At least i can still walk around a fair bit at the moment. I am not likely to sell any bikes yet

A CX Honda was the most reliable bike I ever had, used it for despatch riding back in the 1980s; had to replace a water seal and generator at first but it was very S/h anyway sw 100k miles on it before letting it go, Should have kept it but needed an ignition switch and discs, which cost more than bike was worth. Went to a BMW RT800? after that and that was the biggest pile of crap I have ever owned.

But thankfull for reasonable health as I approach
80 and still ride a poxy scooter, only pills I take are vitamin supplements.

Big draw back for the CX was my little legs, I know all about its top heavy-ness............

Biggest pile of crap I ever owned was a T140 that woukld never run right no matter what I did to it was glad to see the back of that one......

All the problems with my brand new T140 were straight from Meriden. First engine rebuild on warranty was by the supplying Triumph dealership and was a minor improvement. All the problems were eventually & permanently fixed by a further rebuild by an independent specialist. Bike went from being the worst I've ever had to one of the best (only bettered by modern bikes).

I have had loads of 140's over the years, this one was a "Jonah" no matter what I did to it it would not run properly, it was a nigtmare.

Still the most reliable bike I've ever owned was my Velocette Venom Clubman Raced at the weekend and work in the week the worst Vincent 1000. Handled like a pig always stopping miles from anywhere. My Ariel has let me down a couple of tomes clutch centre nut came undone going to work in London repaired at the side of the road ( Embankment) and once oil pump filled the crankcase as the return failed not bad for over fifty years of ownership I did like the Hinkly Triumphs me and Maz had fool selling them ..

As Chazzy says all problems are fixable. If we had something with an ongoing problem, a chap I worked with when I was a lad would say.
It can't win it hasn't got a brain.
But yes things can sometimes try your patience.

We're all in God's waiting room whether your 4 years or 104 years. The trick is don't sit there waiting for your turn, take your ticket and tell them to call you when they're ready for you and get on with your life. It's the only one you'll get.

Trouble is this year spent more times in hospital than last year had two ops whare I only needed local anesthetic but other ops they won't do because I need a general anesthetic..so hopefully will make the end of the year..
Got a nasty letter from the NHS saying that Chime will not be operating anymore( Chime is a hearing and balance department only here in the westcountry
I have their hearing aids and also have had ballance problems sorted slightly whar the NHS couldn't do it .. so now the contract has been cancelled so now have to go to the outside world to get hearing aids repaired or up dated but Balance problems your on your own mate..
Balance caused by the Hospital kindly giving me Sepsis of which there is no aftercare your on your own mate.!!!

Likewise,I am also in west country,Wiltshire, but no hearing help on NHS, but not a big deal for me yet. Daughter in Wales though gets very expensive hearing aids free.
I have no gripes with NHS though, one new knee and both cataracts done. I say no gripes except every tom dick and mohammed gets it all free on arrival.
I had balance problems years ago,Dr said drink less,that worked.

I don't drink so the Sepsis has damaged the left frontal lobe of the brain... So the same eye operation to repair damaged retina and same eye the catteract done all last month.. so happy there so next month have eye scans then I can get new glasses.. but won't be riding I might try the car now
