A buddy of mine has a son that just graduated from high school. Since the 7th grade this kid has played football. The only problem is they live in very rural Michigan and the high school the kid went to was like a "Class DDDD" school, or as we jokingly called it "The Farm League". The kid wasn't offered any football scholarships. Now the kid is planning on paying through the nose with student loans to go to a small private college where he can play football. I guess these Division III colleges let just about anybody on the team as long as you pay the tuition to go to that school. The kid is going to pay a lot more to go to a small private college compared to going somewhere like the University of Michigan, Michigan State University, Ohio State University, Indiana University, Purdue, University of Illinois, etc., etc., etc.
My buddy who's not helping his son pay for college even though he could afford to is encouraging this because according to my buddy that's something his kid will be able to say he did the rest of his life, and that's play college football. Are you kidding me?
I think my buddy is secretly thinking his son will be discovered by playing football at a smaller school, and be offered a football scholarship to go to a bigger Division I football program. Good luck with that.
I think the kid is going to end up going to
Alma College in Alma, Michigan.
