there a popular train of thought out there right now that you can either drive a Cup car, or you can't? I keep hearing this discussed. I know Dave Despain firmly believes in this theory, but let's face it. If you get moved up to a team that's not capable of running up front and winning races you probably won't run up front and win races. Where's a better place to get practice driving a Cup car besides the Cup Series? If nobody moved Jimmie Johnson up from the Nationwide Series he's probably be working at a McDonald's by now because he sure didn't have any success in that series. Look at the other top stars in Cup today, and how much time did they really spend in the truck or Nationwide Series?
