Witnesses said that the two were racing together and the guy ended up in the wall. As happens after on-track incidents, the guy who hit the wall got out and gestered at Stewart on the caution lap. Stewart pulled up next to him and revved the engine while pulling away which prompted the back-end of the car to break-loose and knock the driver across the track, killing him. A bit of rage!
