The "fiber optic" I had was DSL over fiber. Around 9 down and <1 up and very unreliable. Useless for pretty much anytbing. I had a point-to-point wireless service tbat had ok speeds, but super unreliable, dropped service for seconds at a time 20-30 times a day. Telcel en Hogar is a decent service if you live in a part of town with good cell signal. Reasonably fast and Reasonably priced if you aren't a heavy user. It's soft capped at 100gb and $200/10gb above that (IIRC, maybe it's $100?). If you are a heavy user it can get pricy quick. Starlink is very good. The speeds are decent, typically 60/6, and the latency is very good. It's a little pricy for the hardware and monthly, but for me the reliability is worth every peso. You have to have an unobstructed view of the sky to the north and west. Even small obstructions will greatly decrease the reliability of the service. You can get the Starlink app and it will let you check your visibility. I've heard of people getting "good" fiber optic service here, but I've never seen it.

There is fibre optic and there is fibre optic, just because they say it is fibre optic, you need to ask what the speed is. We have something called fibre plus, which is high speed (300 Mb) over copper which is more that fast for normal use (multi connections and streaming). Both systems can be regulated or throttled down for a variety of reasons but again it comes down to speed. I also would like to know what is being offered in the LM area? Several years ago, there was a crew installing fibre but I know no one who was connected when I last asked on the board, so I can not comment on how specifically is it doing? I know someone who got it up a Lake Chapala and they swear by it, real fast, no loading and almost zero lag time, that is all good, but when I phoned and talked to the company who supplied it, LM is NOT on the horizon for future installations so who is the supplier that you are looking to?

Whether it's TelMex DSL, Telcel, or someone else, everyone is running off the same Telmex fiber optic 'big pipe' into the community, and unfortunately it's not very big... that's the limiting factor. Starlink is the only way to go so long as you have a fairly decent view of the northern sky, and that's becoming less important as the Starlink sat constellation increases. Folks, I just got 150 mbps down and 15 up, sometimes I get well over 200 mbps... and an for acceptable price point of $1100 pesos a month. This for no limit data, yes there really is no limit ... so what's not to like? I even modified my Starlink and router to run off solar 12V 24/7... very easy to do. I'm just over the hill from LM so your experience should be the same as mine.

Amazon have it figured.. Lotsa RV types are doing this because of the significant power savings, my Starlink, once booted up uses between 28 and 34 watts... mine powered by a 250 watt off grid solar panel. If you have off grid (not grid tied as most are) solar, your halfway there. https://www.amazon.com.mx/Tycon-Systems-POE-INJ-1000-WT-High-PoE/dp/B07BKV6NYD I have the Tycon high power POE and the 144 watt 48V upconverter as shown on the same page. ...this guy is kinda entertaining to watch, but the 12V modification you may be interested in, is in the last 1/2 of the presentation... You need to be prepared to cut the Starlink cable, It's just CAT5 shielded, but note there is a change in the wiring order for the RJ45 connector to do this mod... it's not a big deal but MUST be done. The presentation shows how to do this. Any 5ghz 10/100/1000 gigabit router will do... I use a cheap TP Link Archer C80 I got off Amazon. A lot of folks get sub-par speed performance often less than 40 mbps because they use 2.4ghz... that won't cut it, for maximum Starlink speeds always use 5ghz unless you need the extended range that 2.4ghz gives you. It is possible with a decent router or by using a bridged access point such as a Ubiquiti router, to share the service with a friend or other family member in order to mitigate the cost if that's a concern. I've done a bit of this....

He installed a new tower so seems like rapid transmission, at least for what I need! Ha…as opposed to waiting three weeks for someone to show up!
