La Manzanilla message board

Hi Anaxx of Coco's, do you use the message board? Posted by Daniel H on August 27, 2023, 8:27 pm Edited by board administrator August 27, 2023, 8:32 pm I know you post here all the time promoting your Coco's restaurant but wasn't sure if you did more than that. Someone came by this evening while I was sitting on the beach and said that your dogs attacked their dogs for the 8th time, that your dog/dog's were really aggressive. They confronted you and according to them you said that there was nothing you could do about it. Is that true? I told the person to report it to the Delegado but thought I would give you a space to respond.

Dear Daniel First of all, I do not understand why you are getting involved in a situation Which does not relate to you in either personal or professional way. You described in detail the situation which you haven’t witnessed on the message board . you don’t know what happened and what was really said there but you gave yourself an authority to speak for the cause. I wonder if you Have considered the fact that by doing so you are spreading rumors and this Always Causes a chain of negativity and never contributes to well being of anybody. I think we should leave to Anax and the lady to resolve the situation.

Isn't it nice that you had a place to say your side of the situation? Too bad you didn't say anything about the dogs.

Daniel recommended that the woman report these incidents to the delegado, whose job it is to distinguish fact from fiction. If the woman and her dogs were indeed in danger, the last thing she should do is confront the other dogs' owner again.

I never gave the gender of the person. It was not their decision to post, it was never discussed. It was my decision and mine alone to post on the message board. There is a 7th grade mentality that has stuck with us through adult hood, never talk about gossip to the person it is about. Never give them a chance to validate the rumor, that would take away the dopamine hit the herd gets from such activity. Sick IMO.

I had understood that Mona was keeping Sofie/Sofia restrained (i.e. upstairs or behind the bar) when other dogs were around. I and a good friend have both had problems with Sofie attacking our dogs, without provocation. I am sorry to hear that someone else has encountered a similar problem.

That dog once attacked my little Cleo. Fortunately, Cleo left only with a chunk of fur missing from her neck. It's pure luck that Cleo wasn't killed.

And I wish you and Sofie Peace and Love too, Mona. I hope she is able to live a long and contented life while allowing other dogs and their owners to live in peace and harmony without fear of unprovoked attack. No one wishes Sofie harm, Mona, but protecting our own dogs will always come first. I know you are aware of the anguish she has already caused. I know you have taken steps in the past to restrain Sofie, but, apparently, that's not enough as it's still happening. Please, please be mindful of others' needs for safety.

You should all be greatful that businesses let you bring your dogs. If I know there may be doggie tension I leave my boy at home,and go and enjoy myself, while he enjoys a quiet afternoon at home. Shayla, I, too, am grateful that I can take my dog into most businesses in La Manzanilla. What I am lamenting here is not being able to trust that I can walk my dog, safely, down a public beach without a surprise attack. Please don't mock, minimize, or patronize those of us who wish to do just that.

Nice words but your actions say differently. Judging by the limited response this situation has been going on for sometime. Once is too many, that it is just a matter of time before it happens again is not acceptable. The problem is you are in love with the dog so your ability to see the pain, worry and expense to others is greatly reduced. An intervention is needed, that may come from the Delegado (I have heard of some pretty drastic measures taken in similar situations) or it may come from people boycotting your place of business until the situation has been corrected, or some other way. The only words that will truly show that you mean what you posted are "the dog has been removed from the beach permanently".

I don’t understand why this conversation has sunk to the level of gossip and rumor, since it was you who first reported the incident and others have since confirmed problems with the same dog. Your first advice was correct: see the delegado. Why would the “victim” seek a second confrontation with the dog’s owner (Mona speaking for Anaxx?) when his/her responses so far have been resistant and defiant? Mona said “Anaxx and the lady,” so my gender assumption was based on that comment. At any rate, my neighbors and I could never have stopped a relentless animal poisoner without the level-headed, proactive, compassionate help of Gustavo during his second term as delegado. This is a matter for the current delegado. “Everyone” (full-timers and annual snowbirds) knows that there is an aggressive dog on the beach who is not always under control. It shouldn’t own the beach. I think we can all agree on that.

We have a 70 kg neutered Italian Mastiff. If I take him for a walk, he is ALWAYS on leash. But to be completely honest, the poor guy hardly ever makes it out unless it is up the hill behind our house. With all the loose dogs around it is just too dangerous. Dogs on leash feel very vulnerable when approached by, usually multiple dogs at once in La Manzanilla. It has crossed my mind in those situations, to just unleash him, and let him, and I with a big stick, have a Louisville slugger, take care of business. That wouldn't end well for anyone. Back in my more naive days, we have been approached by what I am sure is the dog in question. Always a tense situation.

Steve, instead of taking a baseball bat, why not carry a squirt bottle full of vinegar and water? Pepper spray might blind any aggressive dog and get you into trouble big time, but the method I suggest is used by those of us who get around town in open vehicles--golf carts, bikes, motos, ATVs etc. And people wonder why I prefer cats...

Well said Daniel and I totally agree with you. Having spent 12 winters in La Manz fostering dogs I can say that the last thing I would do is to criticize Daniel for bringing this incident to the attention of everyone and especially those who may not know. He had heart and sympathy for the woman and her dog which some of the the posts certainly don't. And, he certainly was not spreading rumors. I saw no apology for the incident which says a lot. Thank you Daniel and I hope the lady's dog is not badly injured.
