Practise makes perfect I also use old rubber coated cotton gloves from the pairs I wear out at work to avoid getting a hot thumb while casting comes in handy for casting eggbeaters too. Try looking at getting a reel with a magnetic or centrifugal brake you won't regret it, biggest thing I like about the penn squall is the indicator rings on the spool to give you an idea of how much line you have got out also stops me from over filling the reel when re-spooling.
