Personally I believe the Chinese have gone past what we produce here. Is a 222 three times better than a Solaris? In price the 222 is close to three times the price! Kilwell have cheap fuji copies on a $600 plus rod not good enough let alone guide placings are wrong. There is predicted to be a world famine in ten years of standard carbon as the Chinese have bought mountains of the material as most rod makers move to the far east. I say most as the best carbon will stay in Britain and the States due to trade controls you do not want a potential enemy having its people with the same military hardware as you no shoot out is fair! The Shimano Rod will hopefully set a new bench mark. Certainly the 12' version I saw in the States last year set a new standard on the US mass produced market hence its award as best new rod at Icast. My local Sportsworld priced the 13'three pieceversion at $650 same as a 222. Better than the 222 well I've cast with the 222 waiting for my Shimano to arrive to draw comparisions dont think though it comes with lowrider guides so that may be the first job.
