Firstly it is a style rather than an actual cast. I would recommend developing a good off ground technique where the lead goes outside of the rod tip as it is cast. Again check Mark Rs photos in the article we did. Be careful with which rods you us some simply are not built for the power the casts develops (overseas, Asian made rods have simply exploded).Once you have this it is a case of adding a swing which changes the start position of the lead. Personally if your off ground technique gets the bait where you want stick with that I pendulum because it works for me and has for the last ten years. Alot of beaches I used to fish as well as now do are covered in wood and bits that inhibited a clean take off especially now at night so I cast with a swing. And done well a pendulum has a certain effortless grace to it and is perfectly safe to use. There are excellent teaching videos which show it John Holdens available once from veals uk is probably the best. Or the one from Breakaway usa.
