You are right there Trev I don't think you gain many metres by wadeing out in the surf but it depends on the beach that you're fishing.I think that if you're on a fairly steep shelving beach or a beach where the waves don't roll up the beach to far it dose'nt pay to wade but on the other hand if the waves roll up up a bit and the beach is fairly shallow say you can walk out about30 or so metres and the water is only up too your knees then it pays to wade.Gil Henderson wrote in his book on surfcasting that you should'nt wade deeper than your knees as there is no benefit in it.I very seldom wade and cast,I think I can get more power into my cast and therfore more distance than I could by standing in water up to my guts. The main reason I was wanting to give the pendulum a go was that this year I'm going to mostly fish with soft bait and could possibly get a little more distance.I didn't want to invest a heap of cash into a rod and reel so I've bought a jig head that will make 125gm and 150gm wieghts, with the surfcaster I will be able to HEAVE & RETRIEVE.Be able to bait up with those Gulp crabs that Gary uses and just walk it slowly along the bottom.
