    Don't want to be rude, but buddy, you don't have anything more than a fleeting idea of what you're talking about.

    Fisheries management is a very complex area, (NZ is internationally recognized as a world leader in this area). The Quota Management System (QMS) introduced in NZ allows for a balance to be struck between all the competing sectors within NZ all wanting their own slice of the same pie.

    Perhaps you need to go of to Europe to see how the fishing is there...(doubt there are any fish left there)....The cod stocks in North America are so depleted that the open season for them runs for less that one day in a year!

    NZ has =/- 19,924km of coastline (If there are 60 fisheries officers (who can only but work in pairs, because of how dangerous the job really is!....This isn't lala land you know...a great deal of the poaching in NZ is undertaken by very violent crime syndicates!)) that's 2 officers that need to police 664kms of coastline....(remember...that's only including coastline and not total offshore water that needs policing....the mind boggles at the scale of their problems).

    If you really want to make a difference....lobby your local MP for more funds for fisheries management. But for gods sake don't be so hard on the people that , if you were really honest with yourself (and better informed) are really doing their best they can with a limited resource.
