Perhaps a problem is having just one competition with one 'National Shore Champion'. NZACA's use of the term 'shore champion' could be reviewed. It's not a term the media or general public relate to.
We could have a contest along the lines of the Snapper 1000 at Whakatane, which is based on a stretch of clean beach accessible to everyone. Boundaries could be expanded somewhat for a national event. NZ Surfcasting Champion.
Then have a open slather rock fishing contest with hired helicopters if you wish. NZ Rock Fishing Champion. This might be a contest of interest to the media, TV shows etc. Daylight fishing with good catches guaranteed, almost .
When the Nationals has been held at BOP in the past, there has been a beach overnighter followed by a day session taking in the rocks. This concept could be implemented.
