Time for Quaddies to wear helmets.?

Do any fishing quaddies wear helmets?

Heard today that one of our clubbies had a bad accident on the beach this weekend and recieved a serious head injury. I think hes probably in hospital now.
Guess he will wear a helmet from now on.

The snapper don't know where the car park is!
Sometimes it is better to travel than to arrive.

Thankfully Kane managed to get help from another clubbie. Apart from the above injuries I am led to believe he has an damaged shoulder and has a concussion. His rods have all been smashed but the quad is still mobile.
From all the Pania club we wish him a quick recovery.

Hope he's not to bad and has a quick recovery . As far as helmets go they are only to work if they fit correctly and are done up . Having bitten the handle bars in the past I would recommend using Motocross style brain bucket and a long peak is great when you are going through scrub and bush bashing.

As I understand he was traveling along the beach and was distracted.As he was looking in the direction of the distraction he hit a log or the branch of a log.

Well wish him all the best from the boys in the naki and a speedy recovery. As soon as i started reading the first post i had a feeling for some reason it was Kane. Helmets arn't a bad idea guys, I am one that has had my fare share of battle scares from bikes and lucky to still be here, helmets are a cheap price to pay.

late at night along whakaki can be dodgey, the logs are mongrels. im personaly not a fan a safety gear though, one of the finer points to life is a leasurly drive along the beach, bit a wind though the hair, dog kicking along side the bike . .
. ect . . . i agree a helmets sensible and we should wear them, but it should be a personal choice, your only hurting yourself. there are bugger all accidents compared to the amount of quad users. it just gets highlighted when there is one thats all. allot more car crashs per vehicle count, and a helmet in a car would also save lifes, but again, we enjoy driving a car without one or we would all wear a helmet in a car, small price to pay . . . . . . .

i hope kane is fine, its a horrible thing to happen, im sure he will bouce back in a fast recovery, all the best.

Sorry to hear of Kanes accident. And he's an experienced rider too. Still could have been worse. Still not nice though.

Kane was fishing next to me at about midnight Sunday - he hooked (and landed) a huge eagle ray which was jumping out of the water - looked great in the moonlight

Would have gone 50Kg easily.
We eventually gaffed it and it had two sets of gear in its gob, and no tail. It swam off without the added bling

I would have got a photo but the ray had walked us several hundred metres away from the van and camera by then.

Thankyou to all the get well messages and thoughts from you all. I had taken the full blow of a branch sticking out from a tree towards opoho in twilight at approximately 20 to 30km/h it happened so suddenly i was bewilldered as to what had initially happened. A glance sideways in the poor light on a flat piece of beach , im so fortunate that it could have been so much worse. Ive travelled past that flamin tree soooo many times in the last couple of years, really annoyed at myself as i am more than competent on a quad bike. I can't turn back the clock so onwards and more careful from here. The quad was unharmed un fortunately its new rod time again

. Any suggestions?. Cheers Kane

Glad to have you back on deck. I have heard of some extreme methods to get someone else to fillet your fish but this was the best yet lol. So good that it wasn't worse and, again, good that you are on the mend.

Helmet for me for sure now!!! Some years back at a Wanganui contest I was riding my quad of the time a Suzuki 250S manual clutch model, which was a prick of a thing to go slow on in the sand but I always was very wary. anyway on that day I ran over a hidden log, grabbed the throttle and as a result did a amazing wheelie which flipped the bike and dumped me on the beach much to the amusement of onlookers.The plastic guard smacked me on the head and knocked me out for a while but it could have been much worse. I learned my lesson right then and have worn a helmet since.
I was fishing at Ocean beach, Western Lake (Wairarapa) on Saturday and out of at least a dozen quads being ridden not one driver or passenger were wearing helmets ...Hmmmmmm

I fish with two Veritas rods. May I ask the cause of the break, was it a problem with the rod or perhaps a problem with the user?

When matched with Shimano Baitrunner reels and four kilo line, I find the Veritas rod very responsive with a three ounce lead rather than the heavier weights recommended.

mine is matched with a daiwa crosscast 6000 with 5kg line, 40lb leader and 4oz sinker, it snapped at the first join.

For me it's a No Brainer,full face on the Harley because getting hit by a stone from the enemy,Cars/ Trucks is no fun at all and a scull cap /half helmet on the Quaddie cos you just never know !!!

thank goodness most of our beaches aren't topless.

Half Helmet still would have had the same result sorry

. Great way to loose weight, slowly getting movement back in the jaw. Revisted the impact site on monday, fakkkkkk i was lucky boy. A bit higher a bit lower a more serious injury would have resulted.
