I was searching for full episodes of that Katie Price show that had a lot of nudity in it. I remember watching it...man...it was probably pretty soon after I got here. I'd imagine that I was still living with flatmates. So I couldn't fully enjoy the show.
But it was great. Copious amounts of nudity right there on free tv. I found a clip here:

It's hard to believe now that this was on tv. I couldn't tell you the last time I saw a boob on tv. Not even from films that happen to have nudity. I don't know if they're censoring them now or just not showing films that have nudity.
But I'm telling you, it wasn't that long ago when nudity on British tv was pretty common. Eurotrash, Big Brother, Film 4 used to show films that had nudity in them all the time. Then there was a huge change. What happened?
Perhaps the most egregious thing I saw on British tv was Film 4 showing the Andy Warhol trilogy of Flesh, Trash, and Heat. In one of these (can't remember which) it's literally just a naked guy sitting on a sofa for 90 minutes. There's dialogue but it's just a naked guy on a sofa. There's also some female nudity. The other films also have a lot of nudity (mostly male, sadly).
There's no way that would be broadcast today. But...have the laws changed? What happened in this short space of time that caused all the networks to stop showing nudity? Channel 5 used to be awesome with their documentaries about large breasted women and Hitler stuff. Now, I haven't watched that channel in many years. They're showing Can't Pay We'll Take it Away now. I'm not watching that shit. Then a neutered, boob-free episode of Big Brother after that.
When you come to Europe, speaking for myself as coming from the puritanical US, you expect to see breasts on television. I have to say that I was a bit disappointed when I first got here. There wasn't nearly as much nudity as I had hoped for. But now there's none at all. It's no different from watching tv in the US now.
Even profanity is censored now. It's crazy. They only show films that don't have profanity during the day. Probably at night too. I bet they censor the profanity out too. I can't remember the last time I heard any profane language on tv.
And the Simpsons is edited WORSE than in the US. In the US, nothing that the Simpsons has ever shown has been cut for inappropriateness, as far as I'm aware. They butcher the episodes for syndication but only to fit more commercials in.
But in the UK, there's loads of really obvious cuts. All drug references are removed, "bastard" references are all removed, there's an episode where Mr Burns says "wanker" and that's cut. It's just ridiculous. I'm pretty sure every episode has something cut from it in the Channel 4 broadcasts. And it's ridiculously petty stuff. Like there's a scene where Moe hails a cab and says, "VD clinic". That's cut. Who but an adult would even know what that is? And even if kids did know, how is that offensive? The man is going to get tested for contagious diseases.
I know about Babestation but I've never watched more than five minutes of that total. Allegedly, there's nudity. What I saw was a 24 hour infomercial for a sex line. The women were in bikinis. Who cares?
That's another thing. I'm reminded of these crooked call in game shows that were all the rage for a while. There were whole channels dedicated to these games. Every mainstream show had a call in contest during the breaks. Then there was a big scandal and legislation was passed which effectively outlawed all of this shit. These channels started showing poker after that for a couple of years.
I would say that when these crooked call in game shows ended, it coincided with when nudity on television ended. Those game shows were absolute shit and they should be outlawed but if there's some connection between them and nudity, I'd put up with them.
It seems like nobody notices this drastic change in the television landscape. Honestly, there's nothing worth watching. But nobody else seems to be complaining about this.
