In the second year, I took an elective class in Programming. The module centred around developing an artificial intelligence. I wrote a program in two weeks which looked for keywords in speech to try to find out how someone was feeling. It was a decent program and I wrote it in two weeks. I got a good mark for it.
Never ended up getting a career in Biology, however I did wonder whether I should have pursued further studies in programming. I've recently been learning the basics of Python and am considering furthering this. I don't want to go to waste.
There's merits in a holistic education, but only when it's interesting. Doing it for the sake of tradition is a square peg in a round hole.
