The main issue that always concerns me with any scheme relating to regulation or accreditation, is in the details of the assessment, acceptance, and policing.
How is it possible to assess a highly skilled successful specialist company who's technicians will have many years experience or indeed how does one assess exactly how a company treats its customers, and whether they offer true value for money? As we are all well aware the disreputable companies are experts in conning everybody!Another key issue relates to large organizations that always appear to get a block passage through such schemes irrespective of branch performance.
Assessors involved in such schemes are usually out of touch with technology and techniques, crucial to the modern vehicle repair.
In contrast to this comment I do have confidence in the ATA scheme overseen by the I.M.I. and assessed at selected local Technical Colleges. The skill tests are realistic and place individuals under realistic pressures, and in my opinion a worthy step forward.
