It sounds like a bit of a minefield to me and unless you have legal backing available through a professional body, then a solicitor's first consultation will probably exceed the cost of the secondhand engine. I have reasonable customers, who would accept that the big end failure is unrelated to the work done in this case and it would probably have happened to them anyway. In any case, they owe you for a new alternator etc. Negotiate on the rest. Good Luck. Regards, Steve
