I hate it when my wife visits the doctor & tells him that she has been looking on the Internet & thinks she has found out what's up with her. I can see his face change as he thinks "here we f***** go" I agree that there are many occasions were DIY'ers get it totally wrong & end up paying more for the job, but the reality is that there are too many answers to to car related problems, that have been figured out the hard way by guys at the sharp end. Its not like we earn a fortune in the first instance, as most guys don't charge for every hour they put in on a tricky job (I think anyway) Its hard to justify charging three hours to find a fuel pressure related problem on a Rover 75 when the customer comes to collect it & tells you he has read all about the fault on the net.
