A couple of years back my neighbour cleared out his loft and gave me, amongst other stuff, a pile of car magazines from the 1960s. Interestingly, one article was about the demise of an MAA (remember them, it's what the RMIF used to be called) good garage scheme. It had folded due to lack of interest/awareness.
40 yrs on and we are no closer to any kind of uniform standard. The fact is, with so many organisations now trying to jump on the bandwagon (and dilute any concerted effort), we are probably further away now than we were then.
I expect if there had been a horseless-carriage monthly in the 1860s there would probanly have been a similar initiative to report.
