    James, if its anything like OZ and a warranty failure can be "pinned" to apart in that system - they will deny warranty.

    Heres an example. Vehicle get and oil change and minor service at eg. 30K and you fit an after market oil filter.

    Oil pump fails and engine is destroyed.

    Warranty department denies warranty due to after market filter being fitted.

    Now it comes down to lawyers and who has the most bucks!!!!!

    In a warranty period I ALWAYS buy OEM no matter the cost (in many cases it is cheaper that after market) and I use their oil (even if it is twice the price of what I normally use). Luckily, many manufacturers in OZ use readily available oils that most shop use but some Europeans!!!! well their oil is only available from them and you pay a premium.

    Look at the law suit re M/Benz in the USA - makes you want to use whatever the mother country states no matter what the price.
