Our local mot station has been online now for a couple of weeks. They are a high volume station and carry out a lot of trade tests.Although they are high volume they only have two nominated testers. They could at busy periods carry out 30 to 35 tests per day between them.this has all now gone as the testers have to log on to carry out a test and also to carry out a re-test.The owner is now a very stressed fellow and can see his profit margins nose diving and his overheads are still the same and increasing.he will have to charge for re-tests just to pay for his time. The knock on effects in other areas will be customers needing to book in well in advance to get a test done at all,and independant traders will no doubt suffer due to having to book in well in advance to get a slot at the mot station, making sure that the vehicle will pass etc on first go in order to avoid a retest fee and time wasting.I am sure that loopholes will appar in the system but i am sure that the only winners will be the government tax collectors who will be watching the data with interest.
