Some very interesting posts re MOTs I whole heartily agree that the full price should be mandatory, however commercial reasoning must also apply, We have until 6 months ago charged the full price with 1 free retest and i always maintained that i would not discount, other garages near and some not so [how far will people travel to try and save few bob?] were discounting, My MOT data base showed a very small increase over a period of years and even some customers were querying our price. I decided after great deliberation to charge £35.00. Doing the figures we have increased our MOTs by 20%, What we loose in reduced fees we more than make up for in MOT repairs. Im not saying this can suit all stations,we all have to look at our market place, after all do we all charge the same labor rate? Their are many ways to discount, i can imagine some of the big boys offering a free service with a MOT? if price became mandatory, how would we stop that? I for one would like to charge full price for test and retest. We charge £10 for duplicates and £5 for police 7day wonder. With computerization i will have to reacess the situation Just a few points on my situation, thanks for reading Tony
