performing rights society

Having read in the papers that one of the big fast fits are being prosecuted for having the radio on so their customers can hear it. It hasn't taken long for them to start chasing the small guy i have today recieved a letter saying i must pay for a license, thinking what a load of rubbish i phoned the RMIF who said if i employ people and thay can hear the radio then i need a licence, cost at this stage unknown.
I am now waiting to hear from them as they gave me the option to ring or they will call me.

Anyone had a similar letter and what costs are likely to be imposed on me, as if the music artists arn't rich enough and charge a fortune to go to a concert

when i worked in a dealership 10 years ago they had to pay this so its been around for quiet a while

you can however have a car stereo on in the work shop, if you get a visit you can say you are testing the unit

(I kid you not, that is fact)

Is it a sign of things to come? When the big birds start knocking the sparrows off the bird table to get the crumbs,do we need to look out?

Had our council advisory officer round the other day ,visited our estate to give "Help" on "No Smoking" signage. Nice chap,from Zimbabwe I believe,very helpful and knowledgeable.Gave us a couple of good pointers.Many thanks.

Today they have phoned cost of licence is !25 for 4 people to listen to the music with a discount next year reducing to £88.
I moaned like hell on the phone about having to pay and asked if they were submitting this letter to every business in the uk to rip them of to which the reply was it is an ongoing programme!!!!

When I last looked into this you did have to have a license if the radio was in a 'public' area. However, in the workshop, staff are permitted to listen to their own radio. At our place an employees benefit scheme includes a share in the sound system!!

Hi, could Mark let me know where you got this info from on car stereo's as I can't find ant infomation on the prs web site. Only thing I can find is on this link http://www.mcps-prs-alliance.co.uk/SiteCollectionDocuments/PPS%20Tariffs/Tariff%20I.pdf, in the definitions on page 4.
