I've briefly read this thread about fuel delivery/pressure etc but..

So are you saying that you need to coax it to start(light throttle?)?
When anyone says those words to me about a K series, I immediately think about valve/seat distortion following head gasket failure?
I think you said earlier that the compressions were OK, can you perform a cylinder leakage test?
I may be way off, but thought its worth mentioning my experience of these heaps
