thanks for the advice guys but if forgot to include that the initial fault code in the ecu was P0605 internal control module rom error.I know this puts a totally new perspective on the issue and i apologise for leaving it out but when i posted the original fault i was very tired and perplexed.At the moment the ecu and a known good but used donor ecu are at the specialists to have the new one programmed.
VRS in coventry connected VAG-COM to it for me and we both came to the same conclusion that when the ecu was tested the first time it was only connected once and as it loaded straight away no faults were found. I will keep you posted on this one. Thanks again.
