I recently had an Audi A4 2.0 TDi (BRE) that came to me in limp home running. It had a DTC...
(000802 - Engine Speed Sensor (G28): No Signal P0322 )
This turned out to be a dislodged plug on the CKP. Once it was clipped home properly, the engine then failed to start & a new DTC was generated.....
000833 - Camshaft Position Sensor (G40): Implausible Signal P0341
With the crank sensor disconnected, the engine would take several seconds to fire up & it was gradual, as if the ECU was messing with firing option, as it determined what worked & what didn't. It would run but not rev about 3,000 rpm. As I said earlier, once the crank sensor was connected, it would not start.
I don't have a mental picture of the layout on this engine. Where does the crank sensor fit & what does it take it's signal from?
Have you considered starter motor interference? Maybe it will start clean if push started (I guess its probably an Auto! )
It would be interesting to get to the bottom of this one.
