This one turned out to be the gasket/gauze for the VVT oil feed and return. When you are installing the timing chain the instructions are to apply air (above 3 bar) to one of the oil return galleries to release the cam VVT locking device.
The gasket had broken between the oil feed and the oil return, even though the CAM was locked when the garage built the engine up upon start up the oil pressure was unlocking the cam again and and the inlet cam was advancing 23 degrees.
This is the gasket that is broke between the oil feed and the return hole you put air in to unlock the inlet cam.
