Set the engine to tdc compession stroke so the valves should be closed, put car in gear and apply hand brake. If you have someome to help press footbrake as well. Then connect up the airline and you should be ok. Any escaping air should be felt through the inlet or exhaust if its a valve fault. Take the valve core out of the compession hose though.
