    Hi J,
    The most valuable piece of kit that you could buy for this kind of work is a lambda sensor simulator /tester made by Alba tools. This not only helps in diagnosis of Lambda sensors and/or catalytic converters, but you can also peg the lambda sensor as 'rich' so the management runs the vehicle 'lean' to take away the fuel, this has worked for me many, many times, especially on Fords and Rovers and we have had some good results with recovering lazy or tired catalytic converters!
