Hi Nigel,
I would suggest that +/-5% is a little too tight a tolerance for Fuel trim,
Also an air leak can affect fuel trim, high or low fuel pressure can affect FT, any mechanical fault that can make an engine run too rich or too lean can have an effect on FT.
I understand your comments but agree it is a little misleading.
