We had exactly the same problem earlier this year with a 2001 low mileage mondeo, Ford technical said there were known problems with a valve in the inlet manifold and the oil separator/breather assembly causing oil to be pulled in to the inlet manifold, so we fitted the modified parts but to no avail. The problem was with the block/pistons. We found you could not buy pistons and rings but you could get a short motor but only through Ford, however, by the time you added all the gasket sets etc and labour involved to swap the bottom end it was cheaper to fit a recon engine from Ivor Searle with a full warranty.
