Thanks for your help guys. Later in the day I found some more time to have a look. When I dug deeper there was a leak in the vac pipe to the valve on the RH bank. No physical sign of leak (that rubbish cloth covered hose) but would not hold vac when applied with a vac pump. All seems OK now, Pump runs as it should. I can only assume that the fact the valves were not opening was not allowing the air to flow and making the pump quiet, Fooling me to think that it was not running when it was.
