Ford Escort 1995 1.4 cvh F4 - Intermittently hunting, high CO and HC at idle Archived Message

car will intermittently "hunt" at idle and the Co and hc's go through the roof, then will run sweet for a few minutes. noticed that readings on live data via snappy scanner where not the same as actual values on sensors, oxy sensor was switching fine and working as it should but live data was giving me readings from 1200mv's down to -200mv's. ecu was tested and found to be faulty so replaced it with a reconditioned unit.
slight drawback is that the fault is still there, same incorrect readings on scanner and high emissions.
can anyone advise on possible causes. ecu earth straight to battery is clean and tight and no fault codes are listed. regards jez.
