renault clio 1.2 16 valve 52 plate

hi can anyone help car came in by the rac car start ok revs
up and down then the [glow plug light comes on ]and cuts out but starts strait away scan done and the code that comes out is 636 intake air circuit does this sound like the throttle body or can someone give me some pointers many thanks craig

Last one I got with this code turned out to be the egr valve

I wouldn't have thought that a 1.2 16 valve would have an EGR valve and Seeing as its a Petrol, The Glow plug light therefore wouldn't be a glowplug light But an Engine management light.

Sorry if thats stating the obvious.

if its got that stupid metal box on the ecu it may have damaged some of the wiring. ray

Oh yeah, will pay more attention in future, when i saw the glow plug light i just assumed it was a diesel

hi all i wud like to apologise put my dec on today and came up with p1042 intake air circuit motorized throttle so snap on back in the box any more thought wud be graitfull many thanks craig

Air Temp sensor is inside manifold on throttle body. Try cleaning the inside of the throttle body and throttle valve, awkward to do but I have had good results from it.

many thanks for ur replys i have taken throttle body out and cleaned it all out to no avail main dealers tell me that u carnt buy the air temp sensor seperate and throttle body is 280 quid plus vat just for one sensor but thanks again for all ur replys

Hi Craig

I had a 2001 Clio with exactly the same fault, unfortunately I do not have a fix as the customer would not pay for any further investigation.

I misunderstood the Snap On code decription.
I too cleaned the thottle body and checked the air temp sensor at the ecu plug and sensor, I could not fault the sensor or wiring.

On this particular Clio the fault occurred after a battery failure, the customer jump started it several times and changed the battery.
There is a metal surround near the positive battery terminal and I suspected the ecu was spiked by a shorted jump lead.

My conclusion was that the throttle body either needed re-adapting to the ecu ( if necessary

), or the ecu throttle driver circuits had been damaged by the previous jump starting.

I would be very interested in the fix for this fault as I hate a car leaving me not fixed

.

It looks to me as though Both the Dec and snapon are saying Exactly the same thing. ( INTAKE AIR CIRCUIT ) Although the dec gives a lot better description. Its Nothing to do with inlet Air Temp.
This is the most common thing on shitty Clio's and the Dealers charge £70 ish to tell the customer that it needs an ECU, Throttle body and wiring harness. At a cost of around £1600.
( basically because it can be any one of the 3 items and they cannot prove which one will cure it so they price up for the lot. Otherwise if they estimate for one or 2 items and it doesn't cure it, The customer will then think that they haven't done their job properly.

Whereas they can get away with Charging Ridiculous amonts of money to repair badly made unreliable motor cars.

I think if you search the archives there will be lots of similar problems on clio's.

hi thanks again for all ur input i have informed the customer and they wont to pay for the throttle body so first thing in the morning im going to renault and pay the price but if anyone has any more thought before tomorow i will be very graitful but in the mean time thanks again for all ur input craig

Hi Craig. Just thought about it and Remembered that Glyn had mentioned Adaptions.

There is the Facility to Reset Adaptions or Throttle Learn on these cars, You normally have to do this after cleaning or replacing the throttle body, it sometimes take 2 or 3 attempts to make it work.

It sounds feasible that this may be the problem seeing as its only happened since a flat battery/jump start. ( Thats if you haven't already tried it ) The Facility ought to be on Dec and possibly on Snapon.

YOU CAN BUY A MODIFIED LOOM FOR THE OFF SIDE ECU LOOM.IF YOU CAN REMOVE THE CAGE ON THE ECU IT IS QUITE EASY TO FIT.

Hi Craig we had a Laguna with similar symptoms which i chased for ages. I eventually located the fault to the pin connectors in the ecu multi plugs,ever time I back probed the throttle body connector at the ecu it would work and give me correct values! So I stripped the (with much difficulty)the wires out of the plugs and what appears to happen is the pin connectors lose their tension, I tried to tighten them up but as I pushed a dummy pin in it just opened up.Piss poor design and materials! Hang on it's a Renault! Good luck Craig,regards Nigel.

hi thanks for ur replys the first fault now ok but we have anotheir one now the car is giveing p1041 throttle angle sensor missing a 12volt feed . start the car and rev strait away and it will rev to 6000 rpm let the car come down to idle and the car will not rev clear the code and the car will rev untill u let it idle and foot to the flour and will not let u rev any thought or is it a trip to the dealer many thanks craig

hi all thanks for all ur help with problem now sorted under further investigation the throttle body was faulty their was no feed comeing out of pin 6 but their was a feed going to pin 6 renault have had a few returnd they parts man told us they have been a bad batch made but once again many thanks for all ur help craig

What happened to The Quality controls that were supposed to be put in place to ensure that parts supplied are up to OE Quality.??

Intermotor couldn't even do a good job of making a set of contact breaker points or condensors in the 70's so how can they be expected to make good quality electronic components. ??

All Companies have the odd problems and hurdles to climb over but how can a company that the Trade have never liked and tried to avoid using keep in businees as long as they have. ??

They must sell some reasonable stuff, It must just be that I haven't seen any of it yet. ??

To be Honest, I have used some reversing light switches etc and not had any problems.
